stories from the ark
a selection of five poems and two epic adventures about life on the ark
in honor of this being the week we read the torah portion noah, i selected five poems that talk about life on the ark, and how noah couldn’t have done it without the help of the bats. i also included here two sagas — “the sage of the flying foxes” which is about how these fructivores re-seeded the world after the flood, and “the horseshoe bats echolocate God” about a group of bats seeking the face of God — which are both epic adventures.
termite-termination-secret-ops
this first poem tells the little known story of how a secret team of termite-eating animals saved the ark.
gopher wood vs. acacia
this little poem is from the perspective of a bat whose species prefers to roost in the acacia tree.
eat more fruit and save the world
this is a poem concerning carnivorous lust, and its role in causing the flood.
camouflage
in this poem, a little tube-faced bat who is excellent at hiding wonders, how did noah find me?
helpful angels
three fruit-nosed bats come together to help fed the animals on the ark. normalize thinking of bats as angels!
the saga of the flying foxes
fruit bats are flying farmers! fifty-six species tell how they re-seeded the world after the flood.
the horseshoe bats echolocate God
this is an epic saga told by one hundred and nine species of horseshoe bats who joined together to seek their creator, encouraged after successfully echolocating leviathan.
